The 1922 Post and Telegraph Guide outlined the Porterage charges on pages 195-6 starting with Para 350. The relevant paragraphs are included below.
Essentially the cost was 3d for deliveries beyond 3½ miles from a General Post Office and 1½ miles from a local Post Office - with several caveats.
