Message area:	One slogan at base A REPLY-PAID ....
Reverse side:	Two slogans.
Colours (text & envelope):	Green on drab or fawn paper.
Size of envelope overall:	80 × 137 mm.

Distinctive characteristics of this form:

opaque envelope;
TELEGRAM in serif font printed to right of centre;
has TELEPHONED TELEGRAM/ DELIVER BY POST in top left corner;
slogan on reverse at base is "PLEASE POST ...";
the main distinctions amongst the varieties are;
1A: box on front is rotated about 35 degrees and no schedule number on reverse;
1B: box on front is rotated about 45 degrees and there is a schedule number on the reverse;
1C: box is almost horizontal and there is no schedule number on the reverse;
1D: box is horizontal and there is a schedule number on the reverse;
1E: TELEPHONED TELEGRAM ... is not boxed.

The first type of format for Confirmatory Delivery Envelopes was produced within the context of the wartime restrictions on paper. Hence drab or fawn paper had to be used.

The advertising slogan for Ornamental telegrams was re-introduced with the printing of EC-1B in February 1954.

AW-EC-1A.

Probably printed in 1952.

Used at Brisbane on 13 February 1953.

Characteristics:

printed on drab paper;
box in top left corner is at an inclination of 35 degrees.

AW-EC-1A (reverse side).

Characteristics:

pointed flap with straight sides;
no schedule number;
top slogan is "INCLUDE STREET NUMBER ...".

AW-EC-1B.

Printed in February 1954.

Characteristics:

letters of TELEGRAM have more pronounced serifs;
printed on fawn paper;
box in top left corner is at an inclination of 45 degrees.

AW-EC-1B (reverse side).

Characteristics:

rectangular flap with curved sides;
has the schedule number in the lower left corner;
top slogan is "FOR GREETINGS AND CONGRATULATIONS ..".

AW-EC-1C.

Used at Brisbane on 5 November 1954.

Characteristics:

printed on fawn paper;
box in top left corner is printed (almost) horizontally.

AW-EC-1C (reverse side).

Characteristics:

flap has a rounded peak and curved sides;
no schedule number;
top slogan is "INCLUDE STREET NUMBER ...".

AW-EC-1D.
	Used Confirmatory delivery envelope. Characteristics: printed on brown paper; box in top left corner is horizontal. Printed with different slogans on the flap in 1955 and 1956 (see below).

AW-EC-1D (reverse side). Characteristics: schedule number in lower left corner; flap is rounded with curved sides; top slogan is the same as for EC-1Ab - "FOR GREETINGS ..".	AW-EC-1D (reverse side). Characteristics: schedule number in lower left corner; flap is rounded with curved sides; change of top slogan to "TO EXPEDITE DELIVERY ...".

AW-EC-1D.

Addressed to North Australian Rubber Mills in Sydney.

Reverse is cancelled at the G.P.O. Sydney on 31 January 1958.

Has Sch. C.T.B. 1356 - 3/56 on reverse in lower left corner.

Printed in March 1956.

AW-EC-1E.

Printed in March 1957 - only recorded used example.

Reverse side of the only known unused example.

Characteristics:

printed on fawn paper;
TELEPHONED TELEGRAM ... is not boxed;
TELEGRAM is printed in slightly smaller but thicker font.

AW-EC-1E (reverse side).

Characteristics:

flap is rounded with curved sides;
same slogans on reverse as for EC-1D.
