Telegrams transmitted through the Marconi networks were delivered either on board or to a land address.

  1. on board delivery envelopes.
    These envelopes were very plain and printed on orange paper.
  2. sent to a shore address.
    These envelopes had more printed information and were generally stamped in accordance with local postal regulations.

1. On board delivery.

1920

Characteristics:

  • printed in black on orange paper;
  • size: 90 × 147 mm;
  • has MARCONIGRAM underlined (46 mm) at the top;
  • has CHARGES TO PAY in the lower right corner;
  • reverse side is plain with a pointed flap.

1955 Poole

Characteristics:

  • printed in black on orange paper;
  • size: 89 × 152 mm;
  • has MARCONIGRAM underlined (37 mm) at the top;
  • only other entry is a Stores number S33 CO in the lower left corner;
  • reverse side is plain with a pointed flap.

Radio post

A delivery envelope posted from Outer Harbour, S.A. to Brewarrina, N.S.W.
9 March 1934.

Very rare.

Characteristics:

  • headed POSTE-RADIOTELEGRAM;
  • size: 90 × 151;
  • has a stores number C. 36A in the lower left corner;
  • reverse side is plain with a pointed flap.

 

Ocean
