All forms issued by New South Wales during the Interim period (1901-1917) can be accessed from this page:

All Interim forms had the heading COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA and a reference to New South Wales.

Transmission forms (ordinary rate).

Two formats for ordinary rate transmission forms were issued by Victoria during the Interim period.

Below those links is a third to link with the one transmission form produced by New South Wales during the Interim period for Urgent rate telegrams.

NI-TO-1.

Has previous Colonial heading of NSW POST AND TELEGRAPH but below the crest are the (post-Federation) words STATE AND INTERSTATE LINES.

Has standard Interim period heading.

Blank boxes at either end of the row for affixing stamps.

NI-TO-3.

The boxes at either end of the row for affixing stamps contain a pointing hand and Date Stamp respectively.

No example of this format has yet been cited.
NI-TO-4.

The boxes at either end of the row for affixing stamps contain Telegraph Charges and Date Stamp respectively.

NI-TO-4

Transmission form (urgent rate).

Other formats are known to exist but either no examples are presently at hand or they have not yet been seen.

NI-TU-1.

Similar to the Colonial transmission form with the heading including ... POST AND TELEGRAPH.

Has the addition of URGENT TELEGRAM in the heading and one format also includes COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA.

The usual Interim period heading is now incorporated.

Eight boxes under the heading for affixing stamps and for the date stamp.

Lines in the lower left corner start "Date ...".

Similar format to the corresponding ordinary rate form NI-TO-4.

 

Delivery forms (ordinary rate).

NI-DO-1.

Form has portrait orientation.

Heading is that from the Colonial period but with a change to STATE AND INTERSTATE LINES.

The format is similar to the previous form but now has COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA at top.

The words ISSUED FORM have been dropped down below the crest.

Landscape orientation.

No boxes.

"NOTE:- The figures ...".

Form now printed in blue on cream paper.

Delivery forms (urgent rate).

These forms were the first issued by New South Wales for an Urgent Rate telegram.

NI-DU-1.

Portrait format like previous Colonial ordinary rate delivery forms but with URGENT TELEGRAM below the Crest.

No reference to Commonweath .. but it was printed just after Federation when an Urgent rate was introduced in 1902.

Portrait format like previous Colonial issue but with COMMONWEALTH ... above heading and ISSUED FORM moved to below Crest.

Printed both without and with COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA at the top of the heading.

Has a large D printed to the left of URGENT.

Message area consists of 30 boxes in 6 rows of 5.

OFFICE DATE STAMP moved to the right side and level with the main C of A heading.

Has a line under the "Station From ... " entries.

Stock number St 7306 on right above the line.

NI-EU-1.

Printed on pink paper.

Has URGENT TELEGRAM in an octagonal box centred at the top.

Has schedule number St7000 in the lower left corner.

Has a printed black seal on the flap with a somewhat anachronistic ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH OFFICE.

Delivery forms (Reply-paid).

NI-RO-1.

Heading is New South Wales Post and Telegraph Prepaid Reply Voucher below Commonwealth of Australia.

Information below the heading notes the reply telegram could be sent "to any place within the Commonwealth".

Printed in black on whte paper.

 

NI-RO-2.

Heading is PREPAID REPLY FORM below Commonwealth ... Below that is POST OFFICE TELEGRAPHS NEW SOUTH WALES - the only NSW form to adopt the Victorian wording.

Has the originating telegram at the top with a tear off form for the reply and details of pre-payment.

Has form number E.T. 10.

Lower section has four boxes arranged vertically to the right of the message area with "Stamps in payment of excess charges (if any) to be affixed here".

 

NI-RO-3.

Heading changed to the usual two line Interim period heading incorporating POSTMASTER-GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT.

Lower section has seven boxes arranged horizontally below the heading section with "Stamps in payment of excess charges (if any) to be affixed here".

 

NI-RO-4.

Has the usual two line Interim period heading.

Similar to NI-RO-3 but the message area for the original telegram is not boxed.

 
NI-RO-5.

Has the usual two line Interim period heading.

Message area for the original telegram is blank. and with a detachable form at the base (generally missing leaving only serrations).

Printed in black on green paper.

Probably two printings.

NI-RO-1_menu

NI-RO-6.

Has the usual two line Interim period heading in large serif font.

Form number in top left corner is changed to
S.T. 10.

Lower section has seven boxes arranged horizontally below the heading section with "Stamps in payment of excess charges (if any) to be affixed here". To the left is apointing hand while the last box at the right has Date Stamp.

 

Money Order telegrams.

NI-MO-1.

Standard Interim heading.

Has TELEGRAPH MONEY ORDER and name of issuing office.
